Samba Ngo

The composer of modern Congolaise music and
founder of M'bamina, the afro-pop sensation in
the Seventies, Samba Ngo was inspired by
the tradition of the Bantu, and projected its
sound into the future. Through its texts and
songs, it shows us that the sound and rhythm
always comes before the man. With rhythm,
comes harmony. Therefore, despite our
strong differences, let's create a world of harmony
for our children.

His latest release, "The Best of Samba Ngo," is a
retrospective of his work from 1975 to 2003.

"Besides being an inspired songwriter, Samba Ngo delivers his songs in a softly seductive voice that convinces the listener that everything is going to work out. His music just feels so right, so full of love and compassion. And one can sense that woven into the sweetness of the lilting rhythms of his new cd "Ndoto," there is a direct connection to the ancient healing role of music that Samba learned firsthand from his father in his rural Congolese boyhood home. We are indeed fortunate to have Samba sharing his music with the rest of the world."

- Larry Kelp, Host of "Sing Out" on KPFA Radio
